Where to go from here.

Today Elle went down to Children's Hospital for her consultation with a GI doc. I think it went pretty well. We did not learn what exactly is wrong, but we did learn what steps to take. The doctor thinks there are a few things that could be going on. First, she could have a pretty severe form of reflux that she will simply out grow eventually. Second, she could be experiencing some side effects from her constipation medication (so we are switching that immediately). Third, she could be having some inflammation in her esophagus causing the discomfort. For that, she will need an appointment to have a procedure called an endoscopy. This procedure sounds pretty safe, so we are not too concerned. What they would do is give her some Valium, then have her swallow a super small tube that will be inserted into her intestines. They will check the walls for any abnormalities and clip off a couple samples to have biopsied. We were informed it is completely painless. The fourth option could be a more rare kidney problem. Ryan and I will take her in this week for a simple blood test to hopefully rule that out.

Wow that was a lot of information. So this is where we go from here. To improve her growth we will put formula in her bottle then water (to make it more concentrated). When her symptoms get pretty bad we are going to give her a 1/2 tsp of Maalox or Mylanta. We are getting her blood drawn this week to check her kidneys. If things do not improve we will get her endoscopy done in 2-3 weeks. So that is the official update. Here are here are her vitals as of today:

Weight: 11 lbs 14 oz
Length: 24.8 in
Head Circumference: 15.2 in

Sounds like it's going to be figured out. I'm sure it's nice to be doing something. Good luck these next few weeks. We love our baby Elle!

Sheesh, that's a lot of possibilities. Hopefully something helps, and they'll be able to figure out what's wrong. Keep chuggin', little Elle!
